| Newly-installed 300kw standby generator |
|
| Background
One River Place is a 40 story multi-residential
luxury building located on the west side of Midtown Manhattan. It is
currently located in what ConEdison identifies as a “severe load
pocket”. In 2008, the property installed a 150 kW combined heat and
power project (CHP). This installation not only helps to provide the
much needed load relief to the area, but it also provides the facility
with 150 kW of base-load power and approximately 1,000,000 BTU/h of
usable heat. In addition to the CHP, the project involved the
installation of a 300 kW standby generator to provide load relief and
emergency power.
Norgen Consulting Group, Inc. (NCG) provided
Silverstein Properties, Inc., owner and managing agent of One River
Place, with the conceptual design for the installation. In addition,
NCG was retained to project manage the engineering and installation of
the CHP as well as the standby generator.
Project Results
NCG
was able to procure $113,000 for the project under NYSERDA’s Peak Load
Reduction Program. The system was completed in the first
quarter of 2009.
