Background
The central utilities plant for a large
hospital complex provides steam, hot water, chilled water and
electricity to its associated buildings. The plant was replacing
electric and steam turbine chillers with one high efficiency, two
compressors electric centrifugal chiller.
Norgen Consulting
Group, Inc. (NCG) was asked to quantify and secure incentives through
NYSERDA’s Peak Load Reduction Program. NCG’s services included
conducting preliminary analysis to determine the most cost effective
incentive program, completing the appropriate paperwork and
applications, completing a detailed assessment and preparing appropriate
post implementation reports in order to secure the incentive.

Project Results
NCG
concluded that the new electric chiller would save the hospital
2,308,041kWh or $323,126 a year and reduce its demand by 1,539kW. The
hospital receive an incentive totaling $560,000 which represented the
maximum amount allowed by the program at that time.
